The desire for renewal was mutual. Vasco wanted to keep Puma in the squad because of the player’s versatility and quality, which was highly praised by Fernando Diniz. The full-back identifies with the club and wanted to stay. The player’s staff didn’t even offer him to other clubs, such was Puma’s desire to renew.
Before the Copa do Brasil final, the parties reached a verbal agreement. Only legal details remain before the contract can be signed.

Puma Rodríguez received initial offers for a contract renewal at the beginning of the year. However, talks did not progress during the first half of the year. By mid-year, it wasn’t unreasonable to think that the full-back’s time at Vasco was drawing to a close. In July, he was left out of the squad for the game against Grêmio due to a tactical decision.
The situation has changed since then. Puma has once again stood out in training and started receiving more opportunities in the team, coming off the bench and proving important. When necessary, the player became the main option to replace Paulo Henrique again. More than that: he took over the starting position at left-back, replacing Lucas Piton, who missed some games due to injury.
The player’s value increased during this period under Diniz. He continued to be called up by Marcelo Bielsa for the Uruguayan national team. The full-back started in both of Celeste’s matches during the last FIFA international break, in friendlies against the Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan.
