Crystal Palace reaches agreement with Tottenham to sign striker.

Brennan Johnson lost his place to Thomas Frank.

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Tottenham for the signing of Welsh forward Brennan Johnson for £35 million. Despite the understanding between the clubs, the completion of the deal still depends on the player’s approval, who is evaluating his future amidst interest from other teams in this January transfer window. This information comes from journalist David Ornstein.

If the transfer goes through, the 24-year-old Welshman will become a key player in manager Oliver Glasner’s system, especially with the club dividing its attention between domestic competitions and European competition. For Spurs, the sale would represent the fourth largest in the club’s history, behind only the departures of Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker.

Loss of playing time at Tottenham

Despite being Tottenham’s top scorer last season with 18 goals, Johnson has lost prominence since the arrival of manager Thomas Frank. With only six starts in the current Premier League, the striker has seen his playing time reduced after the signing of Mohammed Kudus, who has taken over the starting position on the right wing.

Johnson’s departure would mark the end of a spell that had moments of intense brilliance. Signed in 2023 from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million, the striker was a key player in winning the Europa League in the 2024-25 season, even scoring the title-winning goal that ended Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought.

Strategic reinforcement for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s interest in Johnson is not recent, having been monitored as a prime target for January due to Glasner’s lack of attacking options. Currently, the team is feeling the pressure due to a lack of offensive effectiveness, with players like Yeremy Pino still searching for his best form amidst a series of injuries in the squad.

In the current 2025-26 season, Brennan Johnson has played 20 games and scored four goals, playing on both wings. His versatility and experience in continental competitions are seen as the necessary difference for Palace to maintain competitiveness in the second half of the season.
