Infantino drops a hint and suggests a change to the offside rule: “Who knows, in the future…”
The FIFA president also assured that the organization is studying ways to make the game more fluid.
Gianni Infantino assured that he is paying attention to current football trends and, in statements at the World Sport Summit in Dubai, acknowledged that the governing body is looking for ways to improve certain rules, including… the offside rule.
“We are looking at the offside rule, which has evolved over the years. Who knows, in the future, a player may have to be completely ahead of his opponent to be offside,” explained the FIFA president, who also added that he wants to reduce time-wasting in order to make football more fluid.
During the same event, Infantino also announced the launch of a new annual event that will award prizes – to the best players, best teams, among others – and which will start in 2026.
