A restructuring of Corinthians’ Under-20 team has resulted in 19 departures.

Corinthians is undergoing a restructuring of its Under-20 team and has seen 19 departures.

In addition to the players who left the club, Corinthians underwent management changes and signed new players.

Corinthians is undergoing a major restructuring of its youth academy. So far, the club has managed to terminate contracts with 19 players and reduce a squad considered too large for this level of development .

The changes are part of a complete overhaul of the entire department. Since Osmar Stabile took over as president in May of last year, the administration has adopted a policy of cost control, with the base being readjusted based on the main objective: to terminate contracts signed by previous administrations.

Players whose departures have been officially confirmed:

  • Arthur Moura (forward, contract termination)
  • Fernando Vera (defender, went to ZTE, Hungary)
  • Gabriel Caipira (right-back, on loan to Betim-MG)
  • Guilherme Gama (defender, went to Athletico-PR)
  • Guilherme Martins (right-back, contract termination)
  • João Poncidonio (forward, contract terminated)
  • Juninho (forward, went to FK IMT, Serbia)
  • Kauã Henrique (forward, went to Barra-FC)
  • Kauã Marim (forward, contract terminated)
  • Lucão (defensive midfielder, went to Goiás)
  • Lucas Souza (right-back, contract terminated)
  • Pedro Neto (defender, contract termination)
  • Richard Henry (forward, went to Barra-SC)
  • Robert (left-back, contract terminated)
  • Ruan Victor (defender, contract terminated)
  • Thierry (defender, end of contract)
  • Thomas Lisboa (midfielder, went to JK Tammeka, Estonia)
  • Tiaguinho (midfielder, went to Novorizontino)
  • Vinícius Gomes (left-back, went to Sport)

It should be noted that, among the names mentioned, Fernando Vera , Thomas Lisboa , and Gabriel Caipira are no longer eligible to play in the youth categories. Therefore, they are leaving the youth team and becoming part of the professional squad. Lacking playing time under Dorival Júnior, the three were ultimately transferred.

In this year’s São Paulo Junior Football Cup , Corinthians was eliminated by Guarani in the second round, losing 2-1 . In the first round, Timãozinho finished top of Group 8, accumulating seven points in three games, with two wins ( Trindade and XV de Jaú ) and one draw ( Luverdense ).

In a post-match interview, coach William Batista commented on the changes that Corinthians’ youth teams had already been undergoing and the challenges that might still arise in the future.

“I think it’s necessary to provide context. Our work together is very recent. We’ve only been together for four months. We took over a very broken-down team, with many players on the roster, many players who were at the club and should never have set foot here. Seeing results after what we inherited will take a little longer. If we measure time in the short, medium, or long term, we’re still in the short term. And a club like Corinthians needs consistent and convincing victories. That’s built over time. I think the club has been on a very good path. The people at the club today are very serious. The president is very serious, Damiani (youth executive) is a very serious guy. I think the people at the club today want what’s best for the club, and that’s important,” said the coach.

The list above was initially published by journalist Victor Godoy and confirmed by Donpredict !.

And what about new hires?

Despite so many departures, Corinthians also sought replacements, especially for the defensive sector: three center-backs, a full-back, and a striker were signed.

With the transfer window closed, the club can only sign players who are free agents.

  • Christian Oliveira (midfielder, came from Flamengo)
  • João Vitor (left-back, came from Athletico-PR)
  • Levy Dias (defender, came from Flamengo)
  • Ryan Evaristo (forward, came from Boa Vista)
  • Yago Melo (defender, came from Flamengo)
  • Zé Antônio (defender, came from Santa Cruz-PE)
