The rivalry between Flamengo and Fluminense has just gained another curious element, and it’s not because of the Carioca Championship final. Fluminense has signed striker Rodrigo Castillo , the man who was Flamengo’s nemesis in their Recopa Sudamericana victory against Lanús.
Fluminense has finalized the purchase of 100% of the economic rights to the center forward. The amount requested by the Argentinians was approximately US$10 million (R$51.7 million). The new Fluminense signing scored two goals against Flamengo and helped Lanús win another international title.
On social media, Flamengo fans reacted to Fluminense’s signing in a lighthearted way.
Flamengo’s tormentor arrives at Fluminense.
The player lands in Rio de Janeiro this Tuesday (3) to finalize the details of the deal. The information about the final progress was initially released by journalist César Luis Merlo, from “Uol”, and confirmed by donpredic !.
One of the main obstacles in Fluminense’s deal with Flamengo’s conqueror was the payment method. Lanús wanted a considerable portion of the amount to be paid this year. Fluminense sought a middle ground that would be good for both parties.
Castillo has dominated South American football news in recent days after winning the 2026 Recopa title against Flamengo. The Tricolor’s rival saw the Argentine striker score twice in the final matches.
The search for a center forward had been one of the priorities of the football department. Before settling on Castillo, the club tried other names for the position, such as Hulk, Bouanga, Cuello, and Ávalos.
