10 moments that marked Portuguese football in 2025

From Sporting’s back-to-back championship wins to the double, not forgetting the various golden moments of the National Teams, both senior and under-17, and Benfica’s five consecutive championships in women’s football, these are the episodes that marked the last calendar year of Portuguese football, in a selection by Don predict.

The footballing year in Portugal was painted green and red. This was thanks to a Sporting team that won their second consecutive title, withstood the blow of Ruben Amorim’s departure, and went on to win the double under the leadership of Rui Borges.

Not forgetting Benfica, who, despite missing out on the title, won the League Cup and started the current season by winning the Super Cup derby — and became five-time champions in women’s football.

But 2025 was also a very colorful year for the National Teams, who on several occasions raised the colors of the Portuguese flag to the highest level in continental and world terms.

From winning their second Nations League title , through the Under-17 European Championship and the unprecedented world title in the same age group – the third in the history of Portuguese football – these were 12 months to remember.
